A group identifying itself as the "Republic of Balochistan" has issued an open letter to European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas following the Eighth Pakistan-European Union Strategic Dialogue held in Islamabad on June 1, 2026.
In the letter, the organization expressed dissatisfaction with the joint communiqué issued after the dialogue, arguing that principles such as human rights, self-determination, rule of law, and international justice are not being adequately applied to the situation in Balochistan.
The letter calls on the European Union and the international community to pay greater attention to allegations of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, restrictions on journalists, military operations, and displacement affecting Baloch communities. It urges international organizations, media institutions, and human rights groups to conduct independent investigations into conditions in the region.
The organization also criticized the EU-Pakistan partnership framework, particularly cooperation on counterterrorism and human rights issues, arguing that international stakeholders should reassess their approach toward Pakistan and engage more directly with Baloch representatives.
Among its key demands, the group called for international recognition of what it describes as an independent Balochistan, greater international scrutiny of human rights concerns in the region, and the inclusion of Baloch voices in diplomatic discussions concerning South Asia.
The letter further questioned the consistency of international positions on issues of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and self-determination, drawing comparisons with other global conflicts and disputed territories. It also urged the European Union, United Nations, international media organizations, and independent observers to visit Balochistan to assess conditions firsthand.
The Government of Pakistan maintains that Balochistan is an integral part of Pakistan and has consistently rejected separatist claims. Islamabad has also stated that it remains committed to protecting human rights, combating terrorism, and promoting economic development across all provinces.
The open letter reflects continuing political disagreements surrounding the future status of Balochistan and highlights the broader debate over human rights, governance, security, and self-determination in the region.
