Yerevan, Armenia, May 26, 2026: The United States and Armenia have signed a series of significant bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation, expanding economic ties, and advancing regional peace and connectivity in the South Caucasus.
The agreements were formally signed during a ceremony held at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan between Marco Rubio and Ararat Mirzoyan. The event marked a major diplomatic milestone in the growing partnership between the two nations.
Among the key agreements signed was the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation concerning the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP), a major regional connectivity initiative designed to enhance peace, transportation links, and economic cooperation across the South Caucasus. The two sides also signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Charter and a Memorandum of Understanding focused on securing supply chains for critical minerals and rare earth processing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan described the agreements as "historically unprecedented" and emphasized that Armenia-U.S. relations had entered a new phase of strategic cooperation. He highlighted the importance of the Washington Peace Summit hosted by former U.S. President Donald Trump on August 8, 2025, calling it a turning point for peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan and for regional infrastructure development.
Mirzoyan stated that the partnership now extends into critical sectors including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, nuclear energy, and rare earth minerals. He added that the newly signed agreements would create new economic opportunities for Armenia and further strengthen regional stability.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the agreements represented one of the most important steps so far in transforming the TRIPP initiative into reality. He noted that the partnership would help expand economic engagement between Armenia and the United States while respecting Armenia's sovereignty and supporting long-term regional prosperity.
Rubio also stressed the growing strategic importance of critical minerals and rare earth resources in the global economy, saying access to and processing of such resources would be central to technological innovation and economic competitiveness in the 21st century. He emphasized that both nations would work together to ensure reliable and mutually beneficial supply chains for these strategic materials.
The U.S. Secretary of State praised Armenia's leadership for pursuing a "courageous path toward peace" and reaffirmed Washington's support for Armenia's vision of economic development, regional integration, and greater independence.
Officials from both countries expressed confidence that the agreements would pave the way for deeper bilateral cooperation, expanded trade and investment opportunities, and broader regional connectivity initiatives in the years ahead.
