Ashish Chanchlani says he had asked Ranveer Allahbadia to tone it down during 'India's Got Latent' episode

Talking to Prakhar Gupta on his podcast, Ashish Chanchlani said that he did not expect things to escalate so much. He said that the public reaction did not come out of blue. He said that things had been building up as every episode of Latent featured obscene content.
He said, "All of us who were on that show, before us too, a lot of obscene things had already happened on it. The anger that was building against Latent burst on our episode, that's what I believe. Things had been happening earlier too, and there had already been controversy… I was shooting for Ekaki. In the evening, when I finished, my brother told me that a Latent clip had exploded on X. I didn't pay much attention at first. I thought Ranveer would be targeted, I didn't expect this."
Ashish also spoke about Ranveer Allahbadia and said that "he was trying to be cool." But Ranveer brushed it off, saying that it would be acceptable as the show's format is bold.
Ashish saud, "Even when we were there, Ranveer was trying to be cool, saying he'd have fun. He said things jokingly. I even told him during the break, 'Ranveer, tone it down a bit, this isn't the time.' But he said everyone comes there unhinged; they come in a fun mood. That day, I told my team that things had gone a bit too far because of what Ranveer said. But the format of Latent is such that unhinged conversations happen, so I didn't think much of it."
He also confessed that he called Ranveer the next day, warning him that things may become explosive. Ashish also admitted that he was not happy with the episode as he did not contribute enough. He said that he came on the show only because of Samay.
He also said that he wished his portion did not make the final cut. But after the controversy broke, he said that he was relieved he had chosen to remain silent most of the times during the show.
About the 'India's Got Latent' controversy
In February 2025, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, who appeared as one of the panelists on India's Got Latent, posed an obscene question to a contestant that drew massive flak. He asked, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?"
The remark led to widespread online backlash, including an FIR and complaint for 'promoting obscenity' and using offensive language that were lodged with the Mumbai Police and National Commission For Women.
The FIR was filed against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, which led to an inquiry. Many other comedians and artists who had appeared on Latent were also summoned.
The Supreme Court of India also got involved eventually. Calling his remarks "disgusting" and "filthy", the apex court granted him interim protection from arrest subject to certain conditions. It prohibited him from leaving the country as well as barred him from continuing his podcast.
Following the intense backlash, Samay Raina removed all episodes of India's Got Latent from his channel.
