Nabil Gabol had claimed that the character of Jameel Jamali in Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar: The Revenge is inspired by him as he was the MNA of Lyari in 2007. Initially perceived as comic relief in the first film, Jamali's character turned out to be the biggest mystery as it was unveiled in the end that he is also an Indian agent. It led to strong reaction online as well as fuelled Gabol's criticism of the film.
To which, Rakesh Bedi, who played Jameel Jamali in Dhurandhar films, said that it is just a co-incidence that his look in the film resembles Nabil. He firmly dismissed the claim that his character was based on Gabol. Bedi also said that the character was created by the writers and director Aditya Dhar, rather than being replicated from any actual human.
In a recent interview, Bedi jokingly said, "I would like to say, 'I love you, Nabeel Gabol.' I love you very much, and it's a coincidence that I resemble you a little bit. But I can't help it. Neither your father came to India, nor my father went to Pakistan. But aside from our looks, we look alike; we have a slight heaviness in our bodies, which makes us look alike. I even wore similar clothes in the film, so we looked alike. Other than that, there is no similarity between me and him. My character is not based on Nabeel Gabol. Jameel Jamali is inspired by many such politicians in Pakistan."
While Dhurandhar utilises a number of real-life geopolitical events that happened in India as well as Pakistan, Bedi said that any resemblance to real-life figures was purely coincidental.

In a recent interview with content creator Navin Giri, Nabil Gabol said, "Rakesh Bedi is an actor. He is an artist. I want to tell him that we may look similar. Humara dil, humari khoon, humara chehra sabka ek jaisa hain. Main personal nahi hona chahta hoon unke saath (Our hearts, our blood, our faces might look similar. I don't want to get personal with him)! Give my message to Rakesh Bedi, that I respect you as a very senior actor and I love you."
