Legendary singer Asha Bhosle no more

Anand confirmed the veteran singer's passing and said, "She is no more. Her last rites will be held at 4 P.M. tomorrow at Shivaji Park in Mumbai." The news of the singer's death has sent shockwaves in the industry.

Earlier, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had shared her health update on X, and written, "My grandmother Asha Bhosle has been admitted to the hospital due to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. We request that you respect our privacy. Treatment is ongoing, and we hope everything will be well. We will share a positive update soon."

Asha Bhosle was one of the finest singers India has ever had, and interestingly, she started singing at the young age of 10. She sang her first song for the 1943 Marathi film, Majha Bai, called Chala Chala Nav Bala. She has to her credit, some of the most iconic songs Bollywood has ever had, including Rangeela Re, Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Kajra Mohabbat Wala, among others. In addition, she also one of the most recorded Indian singers with thousands of songs to her credit.

Her versatility wasn't just limited to be able to sing ghazals and pop numbers, among others, but she was also well-versed in singing songs across multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and Gujarati.

With a career spanning decades, the singer has also been honoured with several awards, including the Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, to honour her contribution to music.

While she will forever be remembered for her music, may her soul rest in peace.
