Way back in the 1990s, when today's Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan was shooting for the song, Chaand Taare Tod Laun, for his film Yes Boss in front of a bungalow, he told his co-star, Juhi Chawla, that he would buy it one day.
The film was released in 1997, and four years later, in 2001, SRK actually went on to buy the said bungalow, now famously known as Mannat.
It was purely owing to his determination and hard work that he was able to buy his dream home in Mumbai. We can even call it the power of his manifestation. During one of his recent interviews, actor Rajkummar Rao said that SRK once told him to buy a house that he thinks he can't afford.
Shah Rukh Khan advised him, "Beta, kabhi bhi ghar lena ho, to aukaat se thoda zyada lena. Kyunki phir na, upar wala bhi dekhta hai aur tu khud bhi zyada mehnat karega." Well, SRK gave the same advice to the Stree actor that he himself followed decades ago.

Today, we all know that there are only a few celebrities' houses where people gather to get a glimpse of their favourite celebrities. Some of these include Amitabh Bachchan's home Jalsa, Salman Khan's house at Galaxy Apartments, and of course, Shah Rukh Khan's sea-facing villa Mannat.
However, this is going to change for a while, as SRK and family are set to shift to a temporary address in Bandra for about two years while their iconic home - a Grade III heritage building - undergoes renovation.

SRK and his family will temporarily move out of their iconic residence, Mannat, to a luxury apartment in Pali Hill, Bandra. The Khans are preparing for extensive renovation and expansion work on their sea-facing Grade III heritage home in Mumbai.
According to Hindustan Times, the renovation work at Mannat is set to begin in May. This includes a long-proposed extension of the bungalow, for which Shah Rukh had to get the court's permission.
For the unversed, Mannat is a Grade III heritage structure, and any structural change can only take place after securing proper permissions. But now that the renovation is set to begin in just over a couple of months, Shah Rukh will be relocating to a new address with his family.
Shah Rukh, along with his wife Gauri and children Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam, is relocating to four floors of a luxury apartment building in the nearby Pali Hill area of Bandra. As per a report in HT, Shah Rukh has leased these floors from film producer Vashu Bhagnani.
The actor's Red Chillies Entertainment entered into a leave and licence agreement with Bhagnani's son, Jackky Bhagnani and his daughter, Deepshika Deshmukh, who co-owns the property, Puja Casa.

Shah Rukh Khan's dream house, Mannat, has a built-up area of about 27,000 square feet. It is located in the posh Bandstand area of Bandra in Mumbai. SRK purchased the bungalow in 2001 for Rs 13.01 crore. As of December 2024, its estimated value was around Rs 200 crore.
In her coffee table book My Life in Design, Gauri has shared how the couple struggled during their early days when they bought Mannat. During the book launch, the Pathaan actor recalled the time he bought the home, "We did not have too much money. As soon as we mustered up some money, we said we had to buy a bungalow. We managed to buy one, which was one thing, but then we had to rebuild it because it was kind of broken. And then we didn't have money to furnish it."

As their financial condition was tight, the couple could not afford an interior designer-and that's when Gauri stepped in. SRK shared once, "The only person to turn to was Gauri. I said, 'Why don't you become the designer of the house?' So actually, Mannat started like that."
How did the bungalow get the name Mannat?

Mannat's original name was Villa Vienna. SRK bought the heritage bungalow from the 'Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust' in 2001. After acquiring the property, Shah Rukh reportedly named it Jannat, which means heaven.
Soon after he had a lot of success in his Bollywood career, and the house proved lucky for him. This made SRK and the family rename it as Mannat, which means prayer.

On occasions such as Eid or Shah Rukh Khan's birthday, Mannat turns into a big tourist attraction, as fans gather outside the building, creating a mela sort of an atmosphere, just to catch a glimpse of the superstar.
Who is the original owner of Mannat?
