Truck carrying COVID-19 relief material meets with accident
The driver of the truck, Lallianjohn, 28, son of Chinsuankhai of Hiangzou village died on the spot and the handyman, Manglunlal, 30, son of Lainthag of South Point Simveng sustained severe injuries.
A truck carrying relief material of COVID-19 to deliver in Thanlon, Churchandpur district met with an accident between Chiangpi and S Khawzim village at around 8 pm on September 19.
The truck bearing registration number MN 05C1030 was badly damaged after it fell into a deep gorge which is estimated to be more than 500 feet deep. The truck was carrying 280 bags of rice and two bags of dried bean seeds.
The driver of the truck, Lallianjohn, 28, son of Chinsuankhai of Hiangzou village succumbed to injuries on the spot and the handyman, Manglunlal, 30, son of Lainthag of South Point Simveng sustained severe injuries. An FIR was registered on the incident.
The lifeless body of the driver was brought to his village for burial around 11:30 am on Sunday after post-mortem at Churachandpur District Hospital.
Earlier, chairman of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation (MTDC) and MLA of Thanlon assembly constituency, Vungzagin Valte accompanied by deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Pherzawl and additional deputy commissioner of Churachandpur visited the hospital and where the MLA presented Rs 10,000 each to the family of deceased and the owner of the truck and also gave Rs 5,000 to the injured handyman.
