Sarvam AI Launches AI Glasses 'Kaze'

Sarvam AI Launches AI Glasses 'Kaze'

Inc42 4 months ago

AI startup Sarvam AI has unveiled its first hardware product - a wearable device powered by AI, called 'Sarvam Kaze' - marking its entry into the devices market after building large language models.

Founder Pratyush Kumar announced the launch on social media platform X, calling it a move to bring the startup's AI models "into your hands with our devices - designed and built here in India".

Kumar said the first person to try the device was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The device listens, understands, responds and captures what the user sees. The startup claims it shifts AI from being screen-based to something users can wear and interact with in the real world.

Kumar added that developers will be able to build custom experiences for the device using the Sarvam platform, suggesting an app ecosystem around the hardware.

With Kaze, Sarvam joins a small group of AI startups globally attempting to combine foundation models with proprietary hardware, like Meta Rayban, Lenskart B Smartglasses, Humane Pin and Rabbit R1. Building devices is capital-intensive and operationally complex, compared to offering software APIs.

The launch is part of Sarvam's ongoing '14-day 14-launch' series, where each day the startup is launching one AI product. Tomorrow, it is set to launch a homegrown full-stack sovereign AI platform. It will include foundational models trained on sovereign Indian data, applications designed to deliver impact at population scale, and the underlying compute infrastructure aimed at supporting AI for over a billion people.

The launch of the glasses came on the sidelines of IndiaAI Impact Summit, where startups and global AI stakeholders have come together for five days for more than 500 sessions. It will see participation of over 3,250 speakers and panellists.

Meanwhile, the AI Impact Expo, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, features over 300 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and showcases upwards of 500 startups.
