Typically, tech companies tend to forget about their older devices after 5-6 years, but Apple has set a precedent. The company has released a new security patch for iPhones and iPads that are nearly a decade old.
This move was taken after security experts exposed a dangerous "exploit kit" named Coruna.
What is Coruna, and how dangerous is it?
Research conducted by Google and the security firm iVerify revealed that this kit can breach devices by exploiting 23 different vulnerabilities within Apple's older software.
Hackers were exploiting weaknesses in Apple's WebKit (the engine that powers the Safari browser) and the Kernel (the core component of the operating system). The situation was so critical that simply clicking on an unknown webpage or link could have allowed hackers to take complete control of your entire phone.
