The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a sharp political attack on DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over his reported remarks on Sanatana Dharma, accusing him of promoting "Sanatan hatred" for vote-bank politics and intensifying an already sensitive national debate.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a video statement shared on social media platform X that Udhayanidhi Stalin had once again made controversial remarks against Sanatan Dharma despite earlier criticism and legal challenges. He alleged that the DMK leader had reiterated calls related to "exterminating Sanatan," which he claimed had previously been flagged in legal and judicial discussions.

Poonawalla further accused the ruling DMK leadership in Tamil Nadu, including Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, of failing to take disciplinary action against Udhayanidhi Stalin after earlier controversies. He also criticized the broader opposition ecosystem, alleging that parties such as the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Trinamool Congress have not clearly distanced themselves from similar statements.

Expanding his criticism, the BJP spokesperson said opposition leaders had not altered their stance despite electoral setbacks in various states. He alleged that repeated comments against Sanatan Dharma reflected what he described as a consistent political narrative aimed at consolidating specific vote banks. He also claimed that public sentiment would ultimately reject such positions.

The controversy traces back to earlier remarks made by Udhayanidhi Stalin, where he allegedly said that Sanatana Dharma "must be abolished," a statement that had triggered nationwide political backlash and legal scrutiny. The latest exchange has once again reignited tensions between the BJP and the DMK, highlighting continuing ideological divisions in national politics over religious and cultural discourse.
