The move comes in the aftermath of large-scale protests in Noida, where factory workers staged demonstrations demanding higher wages and improved working conditions. The protests, which drew thousands of participants, escalated into violence in certain areas, prompting swift administrative action and policy intervention from the state government.

According to Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam, the revised wage structure was finalised by a high-powered committee and subsequently approved by the chief minister. She noted that the decision was taken after careful evaluation of the situation and consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure a fair and workable resolution.

Under the revised structure, workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad will see significant increases in their monthly wages. Unskilled workers will now earn ₹13,690, up from ₹11,313, while semi-skilled workers will receive ₹15,059 and skilled workers ₹16,868. The revision reflects a substantial adjustment aimed at aligning wages with rising living costs and labour demands in industrial regions.

For workers in other municipal corporation areas across the state, the revised wages have been set at ₹13,006 for unskilled labour, ₹14,306 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹16,025 for skilled workers. In the remaining districts, the government has fixed wages at ₹12,356 for unskilled workers, ₹13,591 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹15,224 for skilled labour, ensuring a statewide impact of the policy change.

Officials stated that the decision followed extensive consultations with employers' associations and labour organisations, with all suggestions and objections duly considered. The government described the outcome as a "balanced and practical" approach, aimed at addressing worker grievances while maintaining industrial harmony, especially in light of the recent tensions that disrupted normal operations in Noida's manufacturing sector.
