An anti-tobacco awareness programme was organised at Mantralaya in Mumbai ahead of World No Tobacco Day through a joint initiative of Maharashtra's Social Justice and Special Assistance Department and the state Prohibition Board.
During the event, Principal Secretary Harshdeep Kamble administered an anti-addiction pledge to government officials and employees while highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco consumption. An exhibition featuring awareness posters and educational material related to addiction prevention was also inaugurated during the programme.

Officials expressed concern over the increasing use of tobacco products among young people, particularly those in the 20 to 30 age group. Speakers at the event stressed the need for public awareness campaigns and community participation to encourage healthier lifestyles and reduce tobacco consumption.

Authorities also discussed plans to strengthen awareness and enforcement related to restrictions on the sale of tobacco products near schools, colleges, hospitals, and religious places. Representatives from hospitals, social organisations, and public awareness groups participated in the programme and displayed educational material focused on the harmful effects of tobacco use.
