What began as a paid private encounter arranged online ended in a Southern California death investigation that shocked both prosecutors and online audiences alike.
Michaela Rylaarsdam, a 32-year-old OnlyFans creator and mother of three, has now pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 56-year-old Michael Dale during an extreme BDSM-style session in April 2023.
Rylaarsdam had initially been charged with murder. However, under a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, she is expected to receive a four-year prison sentence during her June sentencing hearing.
The case quickly gained national attention because of the disturbing allegations surrounding the encounter, as well as the digital evidence investigators claimed was recorded during the session itself.

Court testimony revealed that Dale wanted to be wrapped in plastic "like a mummy," while also requesting women's boots be glued onto his feet and his eyes sealed shut using adhesive materials. But authorities argued the situation escalated far beyond consensual role play.

According to prosecutors, Dale allegedly paid more than $11,000 for the private session, which reportedly involved a series of fetish requests tied to bondage and sensory deprivation.Court testimony revealed that Dale wanted to be wrapped in plastic "like a mummy," while also requesting women's boots be glued onto his feet and his eyes sealed shut using adhesive materials. But authorities argued the situation escalated far beyond consensual role play.
When officers arrived at the residence, prosecutors said Dale was found unresponsive with a plastic bag over his head, duct tape across parts of his mouth and face, and multiple layers of plastic wrap covering his body.
He was rushed to the hospital but never regained consciousness. Doctors later declared him brain dead before he was removed from life support days later.
The medical examiner ultimately ruled the death a homicide caused by asphyxiation. Investigators further alleged that the plastic bag remained over Dale's head for at least eight minutes.
OnlyFans videos and phone evidence became key in prosecutors' case
One of the most unsettling aspects of the investigation involved the digital trail allegedly left behind during the encounter. During court proceedings, prosecutors claimed investigators recovered explicit videos filmed for OnlyFans, along with photographs Rylaarsdam allegedly sent to her husband that reportedly showed Dale wrapped in plastic with the bag still over his head.
In a shocking turn of events, OnlyFans creator Michaela Brashaye Rylaarsdam faces second-degree murder charges after a BDSM session with client Michael Dale went fatally wrong. The chilling incident, involving duct tape, plastic wrap, and a tragic suffocation, has sparked questions about consent, boundaries, and the dark side of fetish culture. Authorities also conducted a forensic examination of Rylaarsdam's phone. While messages allegedly confirmed Dale requested acts involving restraint and glue, prosecutors emphasized there was "no indication" he ever requested a plastic bag over his head. That detail reportedly became one of the most important arguments in the state's case against her.
Michael Dale's roommate's testimony complicated consent defense
California law generally does not recognize consent as a defense when actions result in serious bodily injury or death, making the issue especially significant in this case.
Rylaarsdam's defense team reportedly highlighted that she called emergency services herself, attempted lifesaving measures, and stayed at the scene until officers arrived. Those factors are believed to have contributed to prosecutors reducing the murder charge to involuntary manslaughter.
While prosecutors acknowledged there was no intent to kill, the involuntary manslaughter plea reflects the state's position that the encounter became fatally reckless. Rylaarsdam is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8.
