A motel manager of Indian origin was fatally shot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, after intervening in a violent incident outside a Robinson Township motel.

According to police, Ehagaban approached West after hearing a disturbance in the parking lot. That's when he asked, "Are you alright, bud?" Surveillance video shows West walking towards him as Ehagaban says, 'he has a gun'. West stops just a few feet away, and shoots him. Following the shooting, West reportedly walked to a U-Haul and drove away before police caught him. West even opened fire at the Police and wounded a Pittsburgh detective in the leg. Officers also fired at him, leaving him injured.

It is said that moments before shooting the Indian man, West allegedly shot a female companion outside the motel following an argument. West was reportedly staying with the woman at the motel for two weeks. The woman, who was seated in a black sedan with a child, has survived the attack as she drove to a nearby service centre before police located her. The child was safe an unharmed. Ehagaban, the motel manager, reportedly stepped outside to check on the situation and was shot by West.

The accused, Stanley Eugene West, has been charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, and recklessly endangering another person. In a statement, Martin Devine, Acting Chief of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, said, "The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is grateful to the incredible care provided by the doctors and nurses at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and to all of our local law enforcement partners who work so hard to keep Allegheny County safe in the fight against violent crime."
