Yamuna Expressway emerging as multi-sector industrial corridor with new clusters

Indiatimes 1 month ago
The Yamuna Expressway region is gradually developing into a diversified industrial corridor as multiple sector-based industrial clusters and planned cities are being developed along the stretch.
Projects planned and implemented by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) indicate a shift from traditional industrial plot development to a more integrated economic ecosystem combining manufacturing, services and technology-driven sectors.

Several specialized industrial clusters are already being developed in designated sectors to support high-value manufacturing and labour-intensive industries. A medical device park spread across around 350 acres in Sector 28 and an electronics manufacturing cluster covering approximately 200 acres in Sector 24 are among the key projects aimed at strengthening advanced manufacturing in the region.

In addition, Sector 33 is planned to host a toy manufacturing hub across nearly 100 acres, while an apparel park spanning about 175 acres is being developed in Sector 29. These projects are designed to enable industries across different stages of production-from raw material supply to finished goods-to operate within a single corridor, potentially improving supply chain efficiency.

Alongside manufacturing, authorities are also planning projects linked to the creative and digital economy. A film city proposed on roughly 1,000 acres in Sector 21 is expected to support activities such as film production, media services, post-production and digital content creation. Nearby, a fintech city planned across around 500 acres in Sector 11 aims to provide digital financial services infrastructure that could support industrial units operating in the region.

International collaboration is also part of the development strategy. Land parcels of approximately 500 acres each have been identified for country-specific industrial zones, including a Japanese city in Sector 5A, a Korean city in Sector 4 and a Singapore-themed industrial area in Sector 7. These projects are intended to attract foreign companies and potentially bring in technological practices and industrial management systems from these countries.

To support the industrial ecosystem, infrastructure projects such as a logistics park in the Tappal area have also been proposed. The logistics park, planned over around 200 acres, is expected to strengthen supply and distribution networks for industries operating along the corridor.

Authorities have also proposed an MSME park of about 200 acres in Sector 29 to integrate small and medium enterprises with larger industries. The initiative could help local businesses participate in supply chains and create employment opportunities in the region.

With industrial projects, logistics infrastructure, and service-sector developments being planned together, the broader Yamuna Expressway region may see changes in land use, urban development and employment patterns in the coming years. The success of these projects will likely depend on investment flows, infrastructure connectivity and the pace at which industries begin operations in the proposed clusters.
