JAMMU: The Government Degree Colleges across Jammu Division conducted massive plantation drives under a special initiative of Higher Education Department aimed at promoting environmental awareness, enhancing green cover and encouraging sustainable practices among the youth.
Government Degree College Kastigarh: The students and staff members of the College planted a number of saplings on the college Campus. Students were guided by faculty members on proper plantation techniques, post-plantation care and the importance of nurturing trees. They were also encouraged to plant saplings in their respective areas to extend the impact of the initiative beyond the campus.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the College Principal Prof. Koshal Kumar Mangotra. Staff members including Dr. Arjun Singh, Dr. Anupam Lata and Prof. Sat Pal contributed towards smooth conduct of the event.
GDC Ramkote: The NSS unit of Government Degree College Ramkote, in collaboration with Eco Club, planted a variety of plants on the college campus to promote environmental conservation among students.
The drive was inaugurated by the College Principal Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul along with faculty and staff. The NSS unit has taken the responsibility of nurturing the plants, ensuring the initiative's long-term impact. The drive was led by Prof. Anu Sharma, NSS PO and coordinated by faculty members Dr Aabid Azad, Dr Sheraz Sofi, Dr Sheraz Hajam, Kuldeep, Raksha, Shallu, Krishan Singh, Ankush Kundral and Rajinder.
GDC Ramban: Government Degree College (GDC) Ramban organized the special drive to promote environmental awareness, encourage eco-friendly practices and instill a sense of responsibility towards nature among students.
The College Principal Prof. Romesh Kumar Atri emphasized the vital role of plantation in combating climate change and maintaining ecological balance. Faculty members, students, NSS and NCC volunteers planted around 70 saplings-including shade-giving, fruit-bearing and ornamental plants on the college campus. Students also took a pledge to nurture and protect the saplings, ensuring their healthy growth and survival.
GDC Ramgarh: Government Degree College Ramgarh actively participated in the UT-wide Mega Plantation Drive under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol.
A number of saplings were planted on the Campus to enhance the green cover and promote a clean and healthy environment.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, NSS Unit and college staff.
The programme concluded with a solemn pledge taken by the participants to nurture the planted saplings and to work collectively towards maintaining a clean, green and sustainable campus.
GDC Vijaypur: Government Degree College Vijaypur organized the Plantation Drive under the guidance of College Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht with enthusiastic participation from both staff and students.
Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat took the lead in mobilizing participation and ensuring the smooth conduct of the event. Prof. Ritu Bhagat, Dr Manoj Heer, Dr Naseem Chowdhary and other faculty members also contributed to the success of the initiative.
Participants actively planted saplings in the college premises and pledged to nurture and protect them. The drive served as a meaningful step towards creating a greener and healthier environment.
GDC Kakryal Katra: Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra, organized a plantation drive in collaboration with NSS Unit, NCORD, Red Ribbon Club and Youth Club. The initiative was undertaken to align with the Mega Plantation Drive conducted across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The programme was organised under the guidance of the Principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The event commenced with active participation from students, faculty members and volunteers from various institutional units. The drive aimed to promote environmental sustainability, ecological balance and awareness regarding the importance of afforestation among the youth.
GCW Gandhinagar: Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu organized a mega plantation drive on its campus, marking a collective commitment to nurturing a greener future.
The initiative was set in motion under the aegis of the Higher Education Department, in response to the visionary call of Sakeena Itoo, Minister for Higher Education, School Education, Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare in the UT of J&K. The drive, held under the evocative theme "To plant trees is to re-write the future," witnessed the plantation of 150 saplings across the college premises.
GDC Paloura: Government Degree College Paloura (Mishriwala), Jammu joins hands with Minister for Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education and Social Welfare Department Sakeena Itoo in organising a mega plantation drive under the theme "Plant Trees to Rewrite the Future" to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among students.
The programme was conducted in the presence of the Principal, Dr. Savi Behl, whose guidance and encouragement inspired all participants. The event saw active participation from NSS and NCC cadets, along with faculty members and non-teaching staff.
During the drive, a variety of ornamental, medicinal and fruit saplings were planted within the college premises to enhance green cover, promote biodiversity and generate awareness about the importance of plants in daily life.
The Principal highlighted the role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change.
