KATHUA: District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Kathua Rajesh Sharma today flagged off a SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) Van to generate awareness among the public regarding the ongoing Annual Revision of Panchayat Electoral Rolls in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the DEO informed that the State Election Commission has notified the schedule for revision from March 27 to April 29, 2026. He said that special camps would be organized across all Panchayats on four consecutive weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) to facilitate voter registration and updation.

He further stated that door-to-door campaigns shall be conducted by field functionaries to ensure inclusion of all eligible voters and to facilitate addition, deletion, correction and transfer of entries in the electoral rolls.

The DEO appealed to the general public to participate actively in the special camps and ensure that their names are correctly entered in the Panchayat Electoral Rolls. He particularly called upon new voters to come forward in large numbers and get themselves registered, emphasizing that the qualifying date for enrolment is April 1, 2026.

He also highlighted that Panchayat Electoral Rolls are distinct from Assembly Electoral Rolls and urged citizens to verify their registration separately to avoid any inconvenience.

Reiterating the importance of participatory democracy, the DEO stressed that collective efforts and public awareness are essential for ensuring inclusive and error-free electoral rolls.

Deputy District Election Officer Kathua, Nagesh Singh, Officers and officials of the Election Cell were also present on the occasion.
