JMC Deploys Advanced Cleaning Machines, Intensifies Sanitation Drive Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2026

JAMM: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has ramped up sanitation efforts ahead of the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2026 by deploying a fleet of advanced mechanised cleaning vehicles to ensure cleanliness and hygiene across the city.

As part of a comprehensive sanitation plan, JMC will focus on maintaining major roads, market areas, pilgrimage routes and public spaces in a clean and hygienic condition during the annual pilgrimage.

To strengthen mechanised cleaning operations, the corporation has deployed three compact road-sweeping machines capable of vacuuming litter, dust and waste directly from road surfaces. These machines are particularly effective in cleaning narrow roads and congested urban stretches.

In addition, four Italian-made Dulevo 6000 road-sweeping vehicles have been pressed into service for cleaning major roads and key traffic corridors. Two GVP vehicles equipped with powerful vacuum suction systems have also been deployed to remove accumulated waste and debris from roadsides and public areas.

According to officials, all mechanised cleaning vehicles are operating primarily during night hours when traffic movement is minimal. The night-time deployment allows the machines, which move at relatively slow speeds during cleaning operations, to function more efficiently and safely without disrupting vehicular movement.

Chief Transport Officer, Zone III, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Balkar Angurana said the vehicles have been strategically deployed to maximise their effectiveness and improve sanitation outcomes across the city.

He stated that the compact road-sweeping machines are capable of directly vacuuming dust and litter from road surfaces, while the Dulevo 6000 and GVP vehicles are being utilised for cleaning larger roads and public spaces. He added that operating the machines during night hours facilitates comprehensive road cleaning with minimal traffic interference.

Apart from mechanised cleaning, JMC continues to carry out regular sanitation activities, including door-to-door waste collection, manual sweeping, drain cleaning and public awareness campaigns. Residents have been urged to cooperate by avoiding littering and using designated waste collection systems.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav said the Jammu Municipal Corporation is fully committed to ensuring a clean, hygienic and welcoming environment ahead of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026 and the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan.

He said all available resources have been mobilised to strengthen sanitation services across the city and appealed to citizens to support the cleanliness drive by maintaining civic responsibility and helping keep Jammu clean and green.
