SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday called for making Jammu and Kashmir completely drug-free, asserting that the days of drug peddling syndicates in the Union Territory are over.
Speaking at the launch of a mega padyatra under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan at TRC Stadium in Srinagar, Manoj Sinha urged collective participation to eradicate the menace of drugs.
"We must strive to ensure the participation of every citizen. Together, we must ensure that Jammu and Kashmir becomes an example for the entire country, completely free from drugs," he said.
Issuing a stern warning to narcotics networks, the Lieutenant Governor said that drug peddlers and narco-terror elements will not be allowed to operate in the region.
"I want to tell the narcoterror network and drug peddling syndicates that your days of operating on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir are over. The police, security agencies, and administrative machinery, in collaboration with the public, are working with full intensity to dismantle these networks," he said, assuring strict action against all those involved.
According to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, thousands participated in the padyatra from TRC Stadium, sending a strong message against drug abuse and narco-terrorism.
The Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, a regional component of the national anti-drug campaign, has now entered a high-intensity phase aimed at dismantling deep-rooted drug networks and their links to terrorism.
Launched on April 11, 2026, the 100-day campaign is being closely monitored by the Lieutenant Governor and Director General of Police, focusing on both enforcement and awareness.
Under the enforcement strategy, authorities are adopting a zero-tolerance policy through coordinated action, including FIR registrations, property attachments of drug peddlers, and surveillance using advanced technology.
On the awareness front, over 30,000 programmes have been conducted across schools, colleges, and rural areas, supported by digital outreach through the official anti-drug portal.
Efforts are also being made to strengthen rehabilitation by expanding de-addiction infrastructure and treating addiction as a public health issue.
Officials said that as of May 3, the campaign has resulted in multiple arrests and FIRs, installation of 157 CCTV cameras at key locations in Srinagar, and suspension of 73 vehicle licences linked to drug-related activities.
The administration reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach, stating that every individual involved in drug trafficking, whether within or outside Jammu and Kashmir, will be brought to justice under the law.
