IMPHAL: Mukesh Singh, a 1996-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, on Monday formally assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Mantripukhri.

The new DGP was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by personnel of the Manipur Police. The occasion was attended by senior officers of the state police force.

Following the reception, Mukesh Singh held an introductory meeting with senior police officers and outlined his key priorities for policing in the state. He stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism, upholding the Constitution of India and the Rule of Law, and ensuring effective coordination with sister agencies.

According to Manipur Police, the DGP highlighted the need for impartiality and neutrality in the discharge of policing duties, emphasizing that public service must be carried out without bias and in accordance with established legal and constitutional principles.

Mukesh Singh most recently served as the Director General of Police of Ladakh and has been appointed as Manipur DGP on a three-year inter-cadre deputation approved by the Central Government in public interest.

He succeeds Rajiv Singh, a Tripura cadre IPS officer, who has been appointed Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. Rajiv Singh had assumed charge as the Director General of Police of Manipur on May 29, 2023.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh welcomed the appointment and extended his best wishes to the new police chief.

In a post on X, Y. Khemchand Singh said, "I extend my best wishes to him as he takes on this important responsibility. With his vast experience and distinguished service record, I am confident that he will provide strong leadership in maintaining peace, law and order, and public safety across the state. Wishing him a successful tenure ahead."

Mukesh Singh's appointment comes at a crucial time as Manipur continues efforts to strengthen law and order and ensure public safety across the state.
