CHANDIGARH: An emergency evacuation was carried out on IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh after a passenger's personal electronic device caught fire while the aircraft was stationary after landing, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an IndiGo spokesperson, the incident occurred after the aircraft had landed and was on the ground. "On May 5, 2026, while IndiGo flight 6E 108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh was stationary after landing, an incident involving a customer's personal electronic equipment catching fire was reported. In the interest of safety, an immediate evacuation was carried out, and all relevant authorities were informed," the statement said.
All passengers were safely evacuated and moved to the terminal, where airline staff attended to them. The airline confirmed that there were no injuries reported and that passenger safety remained the top priority.
The aircraft will undergo necessary safety checks before being cleared for further operations, the airline added.
In a separate incident earlier, a passenger onboard an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah opened the emergency exit and exited the aircraft while it was taxiing at Chennai International Airport. The incident led to a temporary shutdown of the runway.
Flight G90471, which arrived at 0323 hrs, was halted on Taxiway V following the incident. The runway was closed at 0325 hrs and reopened at 0435 hrs after the aircraft was moved to Bay 30. The passenger sustained minor abrasions and was taken into custody by security personnel and later handed over to local police.
Airport authorities conducted a full safety inspection before resuming normal operations.
