History of Sindhudurg Fort Maharashtra

The Portuguese, British, and Siddis continued to pose a threat to the Konkan coast during the 17th century.

In 1664, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ordered the building of Sindhudurg Fort after seeing the necessity of fortifying the western seaboard.Under the direction of principal architect Hiroji Indulkar, more than 3,000 skilled labourers constructed this vital naval bastion in under three years.

With its enormous stone walls, secret entrances, and powerful bastions to fend off enemy assaults, the fort was intended to be impenetrable.
