: At least thirteen people were rescued from floodwater after nearly 10 hours operation by Fire Services in the flood-prone Under River at Odisha's Balangir district today.
As per sources, four villagers from Shundhimunda village and as many from Gandharla village under Bangomunda block were trapped in a poultry farm amid rising floodwaters.
Besides them, four villagers from Kondara village under Titlagarh block were also rescued.
Fire services of Bangomunda and Titlagarh carried out the marathon operation for hours during the night and successfully rescued all the thirteen victims at around 4 AM today.
Bangomunda Tahsildar, BDO and Titlagarh Sub Collector & Tahsildar were present during the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, severe torrential rain owing to the low pressure over the area has paralyzed normal life in Sambalpur district.
A bridge over the Chemithi stream in Badmal panchayat of Rairakhol block collapsed today, making it impossible to commute.
The collapse disconnected the road link that connects Sonepur, Birmaharajpur with Sambalpur via Rengali and Badmal.
As the water level of the Harihar Jore and Surubali Jore has been swelling, as many as 30 villages have been cut off from the mainland.
The disruption has also hit vehicular movement of school and college students, ambulances and other public utilities which causes inconvenience to all locals of the areas.
