DD, AIR to provide full coverage of Tokyo olympics

NEW DELHI, Jul 21: The Government-owned Prasar Bharati has tied up for full coverage of the Tokyo Olympics through its networks of Doordarshan, All India Radio (AIR) and dedicated DD sports channel, starting with the opening ceremony on Friday from 4.30 to 7.30 PM.
The megao coverage and detailed timings were announced on Wednesday. DD sports will provide live broadcast daily from 5 AM to 7 PM and also provide India at Tokyo at 8.30 PM, Olympics highlights at 9 pm and Olympics state zone at 9.30 PM. The AIR kicks off the coverage with a curtain raiser on Thursday from 10.30 PM and it will provide commentary of select hockey and badminton matches.
Around 11,000 athletes from 206 countries are expected to participate. Though the sports events being held in 2021, the hosts have retained the offcial name of Tokyo Olympics 2020. The games will go on from July 23 to August 8.
One can tune in for the first hockey pool match of India with New Zealand (Men) on Saturday from 6.30 AM and India vs Nethelands (women) in the evening from 5.15 PM. Another pool match of India vs Australia (men) will be on Sunday at 3 PM, India vs Germany (women) on Monday at 5.45 PM and so on the pool matches will go on till July 31, followed by men quarter final on August 1 and women quarter final on August 2.
There will be first and second semi-finals of men on August 3 from 7 M and 3.30 PM respectively while women's first and second semi-finals will be on August 8 from 7 AM and 3.30 PM respectively. August 5 will witness men's matches for bronze at 7 AM and for gold from 3.30 PM. August 6 will have women's match for bronze at 7 AM and for gold medal at 3.30 PM.
