M'rashtra's backdated tally bumps up death toll to 3998

NEW DELHI, Jul 21: Maharashtra added 3,509 backdated deaths due to Covid-19 to its tally, resulting in a mammoth spike in the day's toll to 3,998 even as fresh infections in the past 24 hours also shot up to 42,015 on Wednesday, a day after sharp fall to 30,093. India's total casualty count is 4,18,480 whereas the active caseload in the country tands at 4,07,170.
As many as 36,977 people recovered from the infection in the past one day, taking the total recoveries to 3,03,90,687, giving the recovery rate of 97.27% of the total infections of 3,12,16,337. For a change, the daily recoveries that use to exceed the infections every day turned out to be less. So far, 41.55 crore vaccine doses have been administered. Those tested for the virus neared 45 crores, with 18.52 lakh tested in the past 24 hours.
