Visitors erect tents on Lidder banks for night stay, authorities decide to stop tourist flow
ANANTNAG, June 28: To contain the flow of local tourists to health resort Pahalgam that has picked up from last one week, authorities in view of covid 19 have decided to strengthen the check points and stop all the tourist activities.
After the government eased lockdown restrictions imposed four months ago to contain the spread of covid 19, locals mostly youngsters from various areas of the valley from last week started visiting the tourist spot to get relaxed in fresh air. Even as the hotels and restaurants remain closed at the tourist spot, visiters, according to locals and some tourist officials prefer to erect tents on the banks of Lidder river and other green pastures for night stay. "The boys bring along the water proof tents, cooking gas, utensils and other necessary things along to enjoy their stay at the tourist spot. From last one week dozens of tents are seen having been erected by the visitors every day along river banks," a local said.
Though few restuarants have reopened in the town but the visitors avoid eating there and prefer self cooking.
"Two days ago i along with two other friends went to Pahalgam. We spent two nights in a tent on Lidder banks. Since four months of homestay due to lockdown had caused fatigue and mental disturbance we wanted to breathe in fresh air. We were very relaxed both mentally and physically ," said Basit Rashid , an engineering student.
However, in wake of covid 19 , the authorities on Saturday decided to stop the flow of tourists to the health resort.
"It has been observed that during last few days local tourists have started visiting Pahalgam. They have tried to pitch tents and stay on Lidder banks. In view of Covid-19, the flow needs to be stopped. It is therefore ordered that all the check points be strengthened and tourist activity stopped till further orders. SHO and Tehsildar will ensure the implementation of the restrictions in the area. Besides I/C tourist police will render all the assistance to SHO for implementation of the order," an order issued by the SDM Pahalgam reads.
