Alappuzha '108' ambulance catches fire; tragic death for patient

ALAPPUZHA: A '108' ambulance caught fire in front of Government Chempakulam hospital on Wednesday evening and the patient inside the vehicle died. The patient was being transported from Chempakulam hospital to Alappuzha Medical College, when the mishap occurred.

The dead has been identified as Mohanan Nair. The nurse, who was with the patient sustained severe burns. Ambulance driver also sustained burns.

In the inferno, an auto-rickshaw, three bikes, a car and a bike were gutted. The initial information is that the Oxygen cylinder exploded while it was being supplied to the patient. Though the patient was pulled out adventurously as soon as the fire broke out, her life could not be saved.
