SYDNEY: Former Australian captain David Warner was arrested for drunken driving on Tuesday. Warner, now 39, retired from the Australian team in June 2024. The cricket superstar had earlier played for Sunrisers and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, and is currently captaining the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The player had returned to Australia during the break between PSL matches. Police found that Warner was drunk during a vehicle check in Maroubra, Sydney. After a breathalyser test confirmed this, the player was arrested and taken to Maroubra police station. As a case was registered, Warner will have to appear in court next month.
Despite retiring from the Australian team, he is still playing in the Big Bash League. Warner, who is the captain of the Sydney Thunder, is the highest run-scorer of the team. That season, the team won only two matches and finished last. Warner is set to play for Sydney Thunder next season as well. It is reported that Warner will have to return to Pakistan when the PSL resumes.
