'BJP is our prime opponent, CPM will end up third', says Benny Behanan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF convenor Benny Behanan on Monday said that the defeat at Pala by-election will not affect the UDF in the upcoming by-elections. He also said that the Pala by-election result cannot be considered as the political victory of LDF.
According to Behanan, it was the dispute among the Kerala Congress leaders that lead to the victory of LDF candidate in Pala. Though attempts were made to settle the differences, the UDF leaders failed in sorting out the issue, he said. While claiming that LDF did not manage to secure as many votes as in 2016 election, he accused LDF candidate Mani C Kappan of forming a secret alliance with BJP in order to ensure UDF's defeat.
While talking about UDF's preparation for the upcoming by-elections, Behanan expressed high confidence. He further added that the CPM will end up at the third position in 3 out of the 5 constituencies. "It will be a battle between UDF and BJP in three constituencies. CPM will end up third. While we are 100% confident about our victory in Ernakulam and Aroor, we hope to achieve victory in Manjeshwaram as there is no confusion about the candidate there," he added.
When quizzed about the displeasure expressed by Peethambara Kurupp and Adoor Prakash regarding the UDF candidates, Behanan added,"It is obvious that some may feel disappointed when things don't take place according to their wish."
