EC fully ready to conduct by-polls in Pala, says Teeka Ram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The election commission is fully prepared to conduct the by polls in Pala assembly constituency, said state's chief election officer Teeka Ram Meena. He said the polls are being held as per the voters list set ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in January 2019. Voting machines will be used in all booths. Voting machines and equipment including VVPAT are set. The model code of conduct has come into effect. The by-polls in Pala will be held on September 23. The announcement of the by-polls in Manjeshwaram will be in November.

The bypolls are held in Pala following the demise of Kerala Congress (M) chairman K M Mani. Nominations can be filed from Wednesday and the last date for withdrawing is September 7. Scrutiny is on September 5. The votes will be counted on September 27. Pala has been the sitting seat of the Kerala Congress for nearly 50 years. Ever since the formation of the Pala constituency in 1965, Mani has won all 13 elections that were held. The election commission announced the by-polls in four constituencies including Kerala. Meantime, polls in Konni, Adoor, Ernakulam, Manjeshwaram and Vattiyoorkavu will be held together later.
