Medical board confirms teacher abusing autism boy
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The medical board who examined an autistic child found that he was physically abused by his school teacher. The teacher identified as Santhosh Kumar may be arrested soon by the Sreekaryam Police. The police has intensified a search to nab him. The accused had approached the court for anticipatory bail. The boy's relatives alleged that the police are delaying action against the accused and there are efforts from various corners to protect him.
The complaint lodged by the parents mentioned that the boy studying in the third standard was many times abused by the teacher by taking him to the bathroom on the first floor. He abused the boy after giving him chocolates and showing pornographic pictures. The teacher silenced the boy by saying he will kill his mother in case he conveyed his ordeal to her. The incident came to light on July 27. The child first told the incident to the speech therapist treating him. Following that, a complaint was given to the Sreekaryam police. As directed by the police, the child gave a statement to the magistrate. The family belonging to other district is staying in the capital city for the child's treatment. In the meanwhile, the child's relatives lodged a complaint to the DGP over the delay in arresting the accused.
Meantime, Kazhakoottam assistant commissioner Anil Kumar said the accused was not arrested as the statement of the boy to the investigating team and the court were contradictory and that action can be taken only after recording the statement of the boy again by an expert team of Child Welfare Committee. Following that, an expert team led by Indu V Nair of Peroorkada Mental Health Centre confirmed the abuse. As per that, the team handed over the report to the police. However, the delay in the arrest of the accused has led to protests.
