Packaged drinking water to cost less in State

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the meeting of the owners of bottled water companies, it has been decided to decrease the price of a bottle from Rs 20 to Rs 10. But the final decision in this matter will be taken only after they hold talks with the government, according to the joint organisation of water bottling companies.

The companies' move is to reduce the price after brining it under essential commodities. They also aim to sell off more bottles with reduced price in order to counter challenges posed by corporate companies.

As many as 105 companies have reached a decision in this regard but when the new price will come into effect is not known. The companies have also asked the government to reduce the tax for bottles accordingly.
