Woman from Kerala trampled to death while trekking with husband
METTUPALAYAM: A woman from Kerala who was with her husband and friends for trekking was trampled to death by a wild elephant Sunday morning at 7.30 am. She has been identified as Bhuvaneswari (40), wife of Prashanth, a businessman in Coimbatore.
A nine-member team including Bhuvaneswari and Prashanth ventured into the reserve forest area near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore for trekking. The couple reached there in their car and friends in another vehicle. They later went for trekking into the forest area and appeared before a wild elephant. When the others managed to escape, the elephant trampled her to death.
The others informed the forest department about the incident. They reached the spot and took further steps. Meantime, district forest officer said the group were trekking without getting prior permission.
Bhuvaneswari was working as an administrative officer in Sankara Eye Hospital for the past 15 years. Navneeth and Navya are her children.
