Youth drowned during trekking in Neyyar

KATTAKADA: A youth named Ananthu (25) drowned during a trekking camp in the Neyyar region on Saturday. Ananthu, a native of Venjarumoodu, had been working as a physiotherapist at the Trivandrum Surgical Centre in Kazhakootam.

According to police, Anandu and his brother reached the Neyyar forest region along with their group as part of a trekking programme. The group had then visited the Meenmutty waterfalls where they went on to take baths. However, Ananthu, who did not know swimming, slipped into the water and soon went missing. His body was later recovered and carried for over 6kms on foot before the group was able to contact the forest officials for help. Though he was later taken into the hospital by the forest officials, doctors pronounced him dead.

Ananthu's body has been kept at the mortuary of the Medical College hospital. The Neyyar Dam police have initited an investigation regarding the youth's death.
