This was their third win in a row during IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians (MI), defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by nine wickets as the latter continued to face troubles with their batting.
CSK’s batting seemed overly cautious, showing very little intent and rhythm throughout the innings; moreover, the innings opened with a wait of three overs for the first six, while there were 27 balls in the middle without an attempted single. No boundaries were scored in the last 17th and 18th, over-expertly bowled by MI’s best for the night, Bumrah and Santner.
Mumbai Indians’ victory not only increased their net run rate but also helped them gain eight points from eight matches. Rohit Sharma scored his first fifty of the season, a personal best of 26 in IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians’ openers put together a half-century stand, and Suryakumar Yadav showed his class against CSK spinners.

CSK faced a potential collapse due to chasing hefty totals and leaned towards a defensive approach. Openers scored only 16 runs in the first three overs, but momentum never came back. Ayush Mhatre injected energy before his dismissal. Certain overs were caught in the dangerous web between Mhatre’s carcass and up to 12 overs.
Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja’s defensive approach led to a disappointing performance, with Santner’s early figures being too early. However, Jadeja’s late over added a delicate touch.
MI’s Rohit made a clinical display, hitting 32 runs off 18 balls and effortlessly playing R Ashwin. Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled against Jadeja, punished him for 35 runs in nine balls, including three maximums, showcasing an individual milestone against a long-time rival.
MI thus assured their berth in the victor’s enclosure with 4.2 overs to spare. His lightning knock not only sealed victory but pushed him into contention for, and probably on his way to winning, the Orange Cap. For MI, the match represented a perfect blend of strategy mastery, form recovery, and dominance.
