IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians End Delhi Capitals' Unbeaten Streak

KreedOn 1 year ago

In a nail-biting last-ball finish, the Mumbai Indians overcame the Delhi Capitals. Delhi had a stronghold on the run-chase, courtesy of ravishing 40-ball innings from Karun Nair.

But MI Impact Player Karn Sharma turned the match into one charm-filled over of the second over, leading to three run-outs in the second-to-last over and leaving DC aghast at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

One team came to a winning streak over another, which lost in that match. In the meantime, IPL 2025 had to do with no unbeaten teams. Although MI’s campaign has been a bumpy one with just two wins from six matches, it will gladly take another victory over an arch-rival. Karun Nair made a comeback after three years and played with immaculate timing and stroke play to bring about the downfall of DC.

Mitchell Santner bowled Karun Nair around the legs with a sharply turning delivery, initiating a floodgate of sorts. Five balls later, Jasprit Bumrah‘s season account opened with Axar’s wicket. With dew coming in, the rule that allows a fresh ball after 11 overs helped MI settle down, both literally and metaphorically.

MI applied more pressure and claimed the scalps of Stubbs, KL Rahul, and Nigam virtually in succession. At that stage, with Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam at the crease, DC had a fighting chance with 42 still required from 24 deliveries.

But Boult’s pinpoint 17th over and Santner’s sharp-turner that removed Nigam swung the game back in favor.

In the last over bowled by Bumrah, Ashutosh now needed 15 off 8 till an ill-fated second run had him short. Two more run-outs ended it for MI in an audacious style. Earlier, they had put up 205 thanks to Tilak Varma’s calm: 59 from 43 and a fiery 38 from Naman Dhir after a brief middle-order wobble.

DC spinners Kuldeep and Vipraj Nigam earned four wickets, but the onslaught from Tilak and Dhir made sure MI had enough runs. Ultimately, those late runs tilted the game, which had everything come back, collapse, and chaos.
