Eventually, by doing so, Chennai Super Kings became the first team in IPL to win the trophy more than once. Hussey and Murali Vijay's 159-run opening partnership against the Royal Challengers Bangalore was the main reason for CSK defending the title.

Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the defending champions Chennai Super Kings on the night of the final and that too at CSK's fortress, courtesy of Manvinder Bisla. With the KKR batsman left with the daunting task of chasing 190 in the final, Bisla took the onus of chasing on himself and replied with a swashbuckling inning of 89 from 48 balls. CSK's run feast led by Suresh Raina's 73 from 38 wasn't enough to stop the Knights from snatching the title from them.

Gautam Gambhir was the second-highest run-getter in the tournament with 590 runs in 17 innings. RCB's Chris Gayle topped the list with 733 runs in just 14 innings!
