ISL 2024-25: Oscar Bruzon appointed head coach of East Bengal

Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings head coach Oscar Bruzon has been appointed as the head coach of Emami East Bengal FC till the end of the season, a statement from the club announced on Tuesday.

Most recently, Oscar Bruzon led the Bashundhara Kings to gain several domestic titles. He had also led Sporting Clube de Goa, Mumbai City FC, and Mumbai FC in India.

Bruzon is the most winning coach in the history of the Bangladesh Premier League. He won 94 matches out of the total 114 played with Bashundhara Kings. He didn’t face more than seven losing games under his lead, and the team drew 13 games in total. They won 5 consecutive league titles, but except for that, they took home 3 Independence Cups and 3 Federation Cups. Under his guidance, they scored 277 goals and conceded only 80 in 114 matches. Bruzon was also the acting coach of Bangladesh in 2021.

In AFC Cup matches, the team led by Bruzon managed to win 11 out of 19 matches with 36 points he gained while training New Radiant FC in the Maldives and Bashundhara Kings. And he is known for defeating two ISL clubs in the past year’s AFC Cup. However, he could only fail a few inches short of entering the knockout stages.

As a footballer, he played for Gran Pena, Celta B, Universidad LP, and Pontevedra CF, mostly as a winger and occasionally as a central midfielder. In his professional career, Bruzon coached Areosa’s and Celta de Vigo’s youth teams and then helped Sporting Clube de Goa win the 2013-14 Goa Professional League. He is also the assistant coach of Mumbai City FC during the 2015-16 ISL. And head coach of Mumbai FC in 2017 I-League. In his maiden season with New Radiant SC, he has won the Dhivehi Premier League, Maldives FA Cup, President’s Cup, and Maldivian FA Charity Shield for the club.
