Neeraj Chopra made a strong comeback at the Paris Diamond League on June 20, 2025, winning his first title of the season. Even though he didn't break the 90-meter mark this time, his first throw of 88.16 meters was more than enough to take the top spot.
Despite only having three valid throws out of six, he successfully held off Germany's Julian Weber, who had beaten him in previous competitions in Doha and Poland.
This victory was particularly significant for Neeraj as it was his first Diamond League win since Lausanne in 2023 and marked the fifth win of his career, which also includes a prestigious title at the Zurich final in 2022. Returning to a venue where he last competed eight years ago was special for him, especially since he had once finished fifth as a junior world champion. He wasted no time in making an impact with that impressive 88.16m throw right on his first attempt.

Weber started strong by throwing 86.20 meters in his first few tries, really pushing the reigning Olympic champion, Neeraj. Neeraj's second throw was impressive at 85.10 meters, but then he struggled a bit with three fouls afterwards, which threw him off his game for a moment. However, Weber couldn't catch up to Neeraj's early throw, so the Indian athlete maintained his lead as the competition got more intense.
While Neeraj and Weber grabbed the headlines, Keshorn Walcott was initially in third place until Brazil’s Mauricio Luiz da Silva jumped ahead with a stunning throw of 86.20 meters, which broke the South American record. As evening set in, the weather cooled, making conditions tougher for all the athletes, but the top throwers remained locked in a fierce battle right up to the end.
In Neeraj’s last throw, he managed 82.89 meters, while Weber's final attempt was 81.08 meters, sealing Neeraj's win. Da Silva finished in third place. Next up for Neeraj is the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava on June 24, followed by the first Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 4, where he'll aim to keep the winning streak going.
