Shahbaz Ahmed’s Cricket Career
After graduating in engineering, Shahbaz’s father’s childhood buddy, Pramod Chandila accompanied Shahbaz to Bengal for the first time to play cricket. From then, he began competing in club cricket events. And, because of his strong performances in his home club tournament, he was allowed to compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time in 2018.

Image Source- Hindustan TimesCricketer Shahbaz Ahmed first appeared in the IPL auction in 2020, when he was selected for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for a base price of Rs. 20 lakhs. On October 17, 2020, he made his IPL debut against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He made headlines when he got three wickets for 17 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2020 IPL season. He also contributed some runs with his bat.
Shahbaz Ahmed played four seasons with Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2020 before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad, in IPL 2024, where Shahbaz Ahmed was a consistent performer for Bengal in domestic T20s and could contribute with the bat and ball, Similar to when his sports show began, he contributed to SRH reaching the final in IPL 2024, through 18 runs and 3 wickets in the Qualifier. Leading into IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants acquired his services for INR 2.4 crore.
While he has had a relatively successful domestic season, Shahbaz has not had an outstanding IPL 2025 season thus far. He was substituted for Avesh Khan during LSG’s match against SRH on March 27, 2025. It has been suggested that Shahbaz offers utility in terms of his roles with variety, but without significant contributions with bat and ball this season (especially on flatter pitches, where his bowling hasn’t been of service).
Overall, Shahbaz Ahmed is a solid squad member with all-rounder potential; however, he is likely struggling to establish a consistent place in LSG’s playing XI due to existing players expecting to perform consistently alongside emerging talent, within the same all-rounder role.
