11 April 2026, US: Two survey templates have been published under the Action to support implementation of Codex AMR texts (ACT) project.
The templates, one in English and one in Spanish, include appropriate questions aimed at four different stakeholder groups, in order to gauge the extent of understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and related issues among animal producers, veterinarians and veterinary technicians, plant/crop producers and plant/crop technicians.
The survey was prepared by the ACT Regional Team in Latin America, with technical contributions from the National Service of Agricultural Health and Food Safety of the Plurinational State of Bolivia (SENASAG) and the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA). It has already been successfully implemented in the Plurinational State of Bolivia and Colombia, guiding the development of targeted communication strategies.
Answers to the survey will help national and local authorities tailor awareness raising and training efforts in order to increase understanding for the need to reduce the use of antimicrobials in food production.
" Antimicrobials are a key tool in food production, but its overuse and misuse use contributes to AMR," says Maria de los Angeles Gatica, ACT project coordinator in the Latin America region, and survey lead author. "But AMR is an urgent global health threat. It can be foodborne and food producers have a crucial role to play in helping to reduce AMR globally."
The ACT Project, which is implemented in six countries (Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Cambodia, Colombia, Mongolia, Nepal and Pakistan), has shown that greater awareness of AMR and of producers' respective roles in its containment, helps to foster collaboration when it comes to the vital surveillance, monitoring and governance needs regarding AMR control.
