27 April 2026, Beijing: ADAMA Ltd. has announced the launch of Marathon®, its first herbicide based on Pyrasulfotole, marking a strategic expansion of its cereals portfolio.
The product will be available to Australian growers for the 2026 season, bringing advanced weed control and new formulation technology to wheat and barley production systems.
The company said Marathon® is designed to deliver broadleaf weed control in cereal crops while supporting resistance management strategies and Integrated Weed Management (IWM) programmes. Pyrasulfotole is recognised for its compatibility in tank mixes, enabling growers to widen weed control spectrum and manage mixed or difficult weed populations in a single application.
Marathon® uses ADAMA's patented high-load formulation technology and includes Mefenpyr diethyl as an in-built safener. According to the company, this combination enhances crop tolerance while maintaining strong herbicidal activity, providing reliable weed control and crop safety under varying field conditions.
ADAMA stated that its proprietary formulation system remains physically stable under both low and high temperature storage and handling conditions. The company added that the technology allows lower application volumes, simplified mixing, fewer containers, and reduced transport needs, helping improve operational efficiency and on-farm sustainability.
Germain Boulay, Head of Global Herbicides at ADAMA Ltd., said Pyrasulfotole remains an important tool for cereal growers and that the company's formulation technology is aimed at improving performance, tank-mix flexibility, and ease of use while creating a platform for future innovations.
The Australian launch is the first phase of a broader global rollout. ADAMA said it plans to introduce additional Pyrasulfotole-based formulations and mixtures in key cereal markets including Australia, Canada, and the United States over the coming years, tailored to regional agronomic requirements and evolving weed resistance challenges.
