04 May 2026, NY: BioWorks, a leading provider of biological based plant health solutions, announces the launch of BioNex and Hoplite. BioNex is a pyrethrins and canola oil-based contact insecticide and miticide that delivers broad-spectrum control with rapid knockdown of some of the most destructive crop pests throughout all stages of life (egg, larva, pupa, and adult).
Hoplite, is a selective herbicide, formulated with potassium salts of fatty acids, that provides fast, highly effective control of liverwort, moss, algae, and lichens.
Both products are designed to integrate seamlessly into existing integrated pest management (IPM) programs, strengthening BioWorks' portfolio and offering channel partners and growers one of the most comprehensive biological solution sets available.
"Adding BioNex and Hoplite to the BioWorks portfolio significantly expands the range of high-performance, sustainable solutions we can deliver to growers," said Chris Rose, General Manager at BioWorks. "Our focus is on equipping them with a complete, integrated toolkit. One that not only addresses today's toughest production challenges but also supports long-term crop health and operational success."
BioNex's mode of action works by disrupting the insect's nervous system while the oil component enhances coverage, residual and contact activity, improving overall efficacy. The formulation combines natural pyrethrins derived from chrysanthemum flowers with canola oil, delivering effective control across all life stages including eggs, larvae, and adults.
BioNex is labeled for use in greenhouse, shadehouse, nursery, hoophouse and container-grown nursery crops. The broad-spectrum control includes psyllids, thrips, aphids, mites, leafhoppers, scale insects, mealybugs, bugs (lygus, stink, squash), whiteflies and more.
Active Ingredients: Pyrethrins and canola oil
Formulation: Liquid
Size: 1 Gallon
- In a trial recording cotton aphids on hibiscus in greenhouse one day after treatment, BioNex achieved 98% control, compared to 78% with a competitive product.
- In a trial recording the control of adult two spotted spider mites in greenhouse-grown green beans two days after treatment, BioNex achieved 97% control, compared to 42.5% with a competitive product.

Hoplite's mode of action works by causing leakage of cell contents and rapid desiccation of target organisms, resulting in visible yellowing and browning shortly after application. The formulation contains potassium salts of fatty acids, which act at the cellular level by disrupting the lipo-protein matrix of cell membranes.
Hoplite is labeled for use in controlled environment agriculture, including greenhouses and nurseries, and targets liverwort, algae, moss, and lichens.
Active Ingredient: Potassium salts of fatty acids
Formulation: Liquid
Size: 1 Gallon
- In a trial evaluating moss control, Hoplite achieved 97.5% control five days after treatment, compared to 80% with a competitive product.
- In a trial evaluating control of silvery thread moss in bentgrass greens, Hoplite provided excellent results, with a 53% increase in control compared to a competitive product.
