07 May 2026, Kerala: VST Tillers Tractors Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) to strengthen collaboration in agricultural engineering, farm mechanization research, product validation, and farmer-focused extension activities in Kerala.
The partnership aims to combine VST's expertise in tractors and mechanization technologies with KAU's strengths in agricultural research, education, and extension services. The collaboration will support joint research projects, machinery testing and validation, farmer demonstrations, training programmes, and student-led research initiatives focused on improving mechanization solutions for Kerala's farming systems.
Under the agreement, VST Tillers Tractors Ltd. will provide power tillers and tractors ranging from 13 HP to 50 HP for testing, demonstrations, and research activities at KAU farms. The company will also extend technical support and supply suitable farm implements for the programme. KAU will facilitate field infrastructure, operational support, and research expertise for evaluating the performance and suitability of the machinery under local farming conditions.
The collaboration is expected to create a strong platform for developing and validating advanced farm mechanization technologies tailored to Kerala's unique agricultural landscape. Both organizations stated that the initiative will focus on addressing labour shortages, enhancing farm productivity, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across the state.
The MoU will also open project-specific opportunities for KAU students and researchers to engage in collaborative work related to farm mechanization and emerging agricultural technologies. The initiative is expected to provide students and young researchers with greater practical exposure in agricultural engineering and mechanized farming systems.
Speaking on the occasion, Antony Cherukara, CEO of VST Tillers Tractors Ltd., said, "We are delighted to collaborate with Kerala Agricultural University, a premier institution in agricultural education and research. This MoU aligns with our vision to empower small and marginal farmers through innovative research and affordable mechanization solutions. By working closely with KAU's faculty and talented students, we aim to develop practical, field-ready technologies that can transform agricultural practices and improve farmer livelihoods across the state. Through this collaboration, students will also have the opportunity to engage with our upcoming Global Technology Development Centre in Hosur to develop cost-efficient, benchmark solutions that blend innovative technology with the needs of India's small and marginal farmers."
A. Sakeer Husain, Registrar of Kerala Agricultural University, said the collaboration would strengthen the university's efforts in promoting research, innovation, and technology dissemination in agricultural mechanization. He noted that partnerships with industry leaders such as VST would improve practical learning opportunities for students, enhance research outcomes, and support the development of efficient farm technologies suited to Kerala's agricultural systems.
He further added that the initiative would benefit farmers through field demonstrations, testing programmes, and awareness campaigns aimed at improving farm productivity and sustainability.
Officials from both organizations described the partnership as an important step toward accelerating innovation in agricultural mechanization while ensuring modern, efficient, and affordable technologies reach farmers more effectively.
