Neena Gupta talks about facing casting couch and how she didn't say anything to avoid besmirching of her name
Actress Neena Gupta recently released her biography 'Sach Kahun Toh'. In the book, she touches upon several times in her life. Her childhood in Delhi and then her move to Mumbai in the 1980s after graduation from the National School of Drama. She also talks about having a child out of wedlock at that time and her second innings in Bollywood starting with the critically acclaimed Badhaai Ho.
Apart from this, she also talked about having to face casting couch at the hands of a 'big' director. She revealed that a 'big' filmmaker once made a crass comment about her after she refused to perform sexual favours. She said that he made the comment in front of other people, including actors, leaving her fuming.
Neena while talking with Sonali Bendre revealed that she was absolutely furious and wanted to call him out in public but her friends advised her against it. She told Sonali. 'I was angry and wanted to tell everyone what he did but my friends said that no one will listen to me as I was a struggling actress then and that my name will get besmirched. I still told somebody and then he made a crude comment about me in front of everybody. People told me that this is what will happen if you make it public, things will turn extremely dirty.'
She further added, 'People told me that you're a struggler now, talk about it when your day comes. So today is my day and I want to tell everyone that this film director told me in front of everybody, 'Cheezon ko istemaal nahi karo toh zung lag jaata hai (If you don't use things, they begin to rust)', because I refused to sleep with him.
