A significant achievement of this organ donation campaign was that for the first time in the country, a heart was transported for transplant via the Vande Bharat Express train.

The heart was safely delivered from Surat to U.N. Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad in just 217 minutes (3 hours 37 minutes). Mithun Swain, a resident of Siddhpur, Kalakhadi village in Ganjam district of Odisha, was working in the Sancha department while living in the Kim area of Surat. On July 28, his health suddenly deteriorated.

While sitting in his room, one side of his face became droopy, and his left hand and leg stopped functioning. He was first taken to a local private hospital, and due to his serious condition, he was referred to New Civil Hospital via 108 ambulance. After initial treatment in the emergency department of the civil hospital, he was admitted to the ICU.

On July 30 at 4:01 PM, a team of doctors-RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, plastic surgeon Dr. Nilesh Kachhadia, neurologist Dr. Prayag Makwana, and neurosurgeon Dr. Keyur Prajapati-declared him brain dead. Following this, volunteers from the Organ Donation Charitable Trust, Iqbal Kadiwala and counselor Nirmala Kathude, explained the importance of organ donation to the family. His wife, brother, and other family members made an inspiring decision for society and consented to the organ donation.

A prayer meeting held on Friday morning was attended by Medical Superintendent Dr. Parul Vadgama, Medical Officer Dr. Solanki, representatives from the Organ Donation Charitable Trust, doctors, nursing staff, and other employees who paid tribute to the late Mithun Swain. Under the organ donation process, both kidneys and the liver were sent to IKDRC in Ahmedabad, while the heart was transported from Surat Railway Station to U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center in Ahmedabad via the Vande Bharat Express. Due to continuous rain affecting air services, this was the first time such life-saving organ transport was made possible by rail.

In this entire campaign, New Civil Hospital, Organ Donation Charitable Trust, railway administration, railway security force, Gujarat police, doctors, nursing staff, and social workers worked in coordination. Dilip Dada Deshmukh, the initiator of the organ donation awareness campaign, also made significant contributions to this service mission. Through their joint efforts, this humanitarian mission successfully provided new life to four patients.
