Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday led a massive roadshow in Guwahati before filing his nomination papers for the Jalukbari Assembly constituency, reaffirming his bid for a sixth consecutive term.
The procession began at the Veterinary Field in the Khanapara area and covered a distance of around 5.6 kilometres to the Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Election Office. Sarma rode atop a vehicle, accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, son Nandil Biswa Sarma, and BJP's Gauhati Lok Sabha MP Bijuli Kalita Medh
Before commencing the rally, the Chief Minister sought blessings from his mother Mrinalini Devi. Despite heavy rainfall overnight and in the morning, large numbers of supporters gathered at the venue, showcasing strong turnout and enthusiasm.

Addressing the crowd, Sarma expressed gratitude for the unwavering support. "I thank the people of Assam. Despite the rain, they have come out in large numbers to bless us," he said.
Supporters echoed similar sentiments, stating that the weather did not deter their commitment to the BJP. Sarma's son, Nandil, described the rally as an exciting experience, while Riniki Bhuyan Sarma expressed confidence that the BJP would sweep the upcoming Assembly elections.
Sarma has represented Jalukbari since 2001. He first contested the seat in 1996 as a Congress candidate but lost to late AGP leader Bhrigu Kumar Phukan. He reclaimed the constituency in 2001 and has since maintained a strong hold, with his victory margins steadily increasing-culminating in a record win of over 1 lakh votes in 2021. He joined the BJP in 2015.
The last date for filing nominations is March 23, with scrutiny scheduled for March 24. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 26. Elections to the 126-member Assam Assembly will be held on April 9, with counting slated for May 4.
