Kochi: Aster Medcity's Aster KIND (Kids Integrated Neuro Developmental Centre), under its Centre of Excellence in Paediatrics & Neonatology, observed World Autism Awareness Day with a programme aimed at promoting awareness, acceptance and inclusion.
The event featured a vibrant talent show, creative sessions, and experience-sharing segments that highlighted the abilities and strengths of individuals with autism.
Medical experts and dignitaries in attendance
The programme was attended by Dr Nalanda Jayadev, CEO of Aster Medcity, along with Dr Jeeson C Unni, Senior Consultant, Paediatrics and Neonatology; Dr Anitha Vijayan, Developmental Paediatrics; and Dr Maria Grace Treasa, Senior Speech Language Pathologist.
Representing the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Cochin, President Dr Vijayan K.G. and Secretary Dr Sathyajith Nair also participated in the celebration. Rotarian J.J. Thomas from the Rotary Club of Kochi was also present.
Showcase of skills and creative engagements
Day Dreams Vocational Training Centre presented the skills of its trainees as part of the programme. This was followed by an interactive talk by Dr Baby Chakrapani from CUSAT and a creative art session conducted by Ms Smriti Santosh, which was enjoyed by both children and parents.
Exhibition highlighting autism-inclusive enterprises
The event also included an exhibition and sale showcasing the talents of autistic individuals. The displays featured baked goods from 'Ausome Bites', a venture by Autism Club, Ernakulam; handmade scented candles from 'Luiz Candles'; and 'Talking Fingers', a book written by non-speaking autistic individuals that shares their personal insights and aspirations.
