Bengaluru: A 48-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed after the compound wall of a private club allegedly collapsed onto his vehicle during heavy rainfall in the city on Friday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Gangaborayya.
According to police, the incident took place in the Vijayanagar area when the driver had parked his auto-rickshaw near the compound wall of Vijayanagar Club to take shelter from sudden heavy rain.
While he was waiting inside the vehicle for the weather to ease, the wall-reportedly weakened by continuous rainfall-collapsed onto the auto-rickshaw.
Police said the vehicle was completely crushed under the debris, leaving the driver with severe injuries. He died on the spot, a senior officer confirmed.
Gangaborayya had been ferrying passengers in the area earlier in the evening before stopping to take shelter due to the downpour.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
