Banking trouble today? SBI, UCO Bank services hit by maintenance disruptions

Mathrubhumi English 2 months ago

Several users across India reported disruptions, with customers of State Bank of India (SBI) and UCO Bank flagging UPI transaction failures and server errors.

Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about payment glitches, while outage-tracking platform Downdetector showed a sharp surge in reports, with more than 500 complaints linked to SBI alone by midday.

However, SBI noted that the issue is not related to UPI but is due to scheduled maintenance activity at their end.

"The scheduled maintenance activity end timing has been extended to 12:30 Hrs on 01.04.2026. Our services, UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS, may experience disruptions. Customers may use our UPI Lite, eRupee (CBDC) App and ATM Services during this period. We regret the inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding," SBI wrote in X.

Users flag issues on X

Several customers posted their experiences online, tagging their respective banks while urging a quick resolution.

One user, identified as @SamantaMajumder, wrote, "#SBIfoolsday On 1st April only SBI is playing fool with people. Since morning I am trying send money through UPI but continuously they are showing that server is down."

Another user, UDDIPTA KUMAR NATH, criticised the outage while appealing to the bank to act quickly, "@TheOfficialSBI @OfficialSBICare your online system is down since 11 am. This is creating great inconvenience to many customers! Fix it ASAP!! In present day, people mostly do online transactions, UPI only, keeping cash has reduced greatly among people," he posted on X.

SBI revises maintenance window, services remain disrupted

Earlier in the day, SBI informed customers that its scheduled maintenance window had been revised to 11:00 am-11:45 am on 1 April 2026.

"The scheduled maintenance activity timing has been revised, Our services UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS may experience disruptions between 11:00 Hrs and 11:45 Hrs (IST) on 01.04.2026 (45 Minutes)," the bank stated.

Later, the lender announced an extension of the maintenance end time to 12:30 pm, "Our services, UPI, IMPS, YONO, Internet Banking, NEFT and RTGS, may experience disruptions," it added in another update.

Surge in complaints on Downdetector

Downdetector displayed a steep rise in outage reports as the disruptions unfolded.

SBI logged over 500 complaints around noon.

UCO Bank saw around 40-50 reports in the early afternoon.

Overall UPI-related problems across platforms exceeded 40 reports as more users voiced concerns.

According to Downdetector data, 34% of SBI users struggled with fund transfers, 24% faced issues accessing the YONO app, and 22% reported mobile-banking errors.

Cities reporting the most outages

The disruptions affected users across multiple regions, with major cities experiencing widespread transaction failures. Heavily affected locations for SBI users included New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Pune, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Chennai.

Whereas, UCO Bank users facing issues were mainly concentrated in New Delhi, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

Alternatives during outage

Amid the ongoing disruption, SBI advised customers to opt for alternative channels:

  • UPI Lite
  • eRupee (CBDC) app
  • ATM services

The bank recommended using these options until full service is restored.

Banks are expected to restore normal services once maintenance processes conclude. Users experiencing errors have been advised to retry payments later or use alternative methods in the interim.<
